As Hurricane Harvey Nears, TFFA Assists State With Fuel Supply Issues

Hurricane Harvey is now in the Gulf of Mexico.  The likelihood of reformation and potential serious local heavy rainfall has weather monitoring and emergency response teams very concerned.   While these type of storms are normally not a wind event threat, they can produce very heavy localized rainfall causing flooding in addition to an array of other public safety concerns.

The State Operations Center (SOC) serves as the state warning point and primary state direction and control facility. It operates 24/7 to monitor threats, make notification of threats and provide information on emergency incidents to local, state, and federal officials, and coordinate state emergency assistance to local governments that have experienced an emergency situation that local response resources are inadequate to deal with.

This week, the SOC notified the Texas Food & Fuel Association (TFFA) that its participation and input is needed to mitigate potential fuel and transportation related issues that may arise as Hurricane Harvey nears.

As is most weather related cases, the extent of potential damage and seriousness of the emergency will only be known as it happens.

TFFA is honored to serve on the SOC alongside public and private partners to keep Texans safe as we brace for Hurricane Harvey.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
