CHICAGO—DoorDash has launched a digital convenience store with more than 2,500 items, CNBC reports. Customers in Chicago; Cincinnati; Columbus, Ohio; Dallas; Minneapolis; Phoenix; Redwood City, Calif.; and Salt Lake City now can order things like household essentials, specialty spices, sauces and ready-made meals from the delivery company.
“It’s a bit like the express lane inside of a store, whether that store is a grocery store or a convenience store, or a pharmacy,” said DoorDash CEO Tony Xu. “Sometimes, you just need those things that either you forgot, or just need in high frequency.”
DoorDash said DashMart will deliver orders in around half an hour. “You really don’t have that proposition anywhere else. So from our perspective, there was an opportunity to serve both consumers and merchants toward the goal of making sure that we can get the best of a city to the customers that live there,” Xu said.
In April, DoorDash launched a convenience category, powered by partnerships with 7-Eleven, Walgreens, CVS, Wawa and more. Now its convenience category includes more than 2,500 convenience stores across more than 1,100 cities nationwide, DoorDash blog reports.
“DashMart is a new type of convenience store, offering both household essentials and local restaurant favorites to our customers’ doorsteps,” wrote Andrew Ladd, director of new verticals, on the DoorDash blog. “On DashMart, you’ll find thousands of convenience, grocery, and restaurant items, from ice cream and chips, to cough medicine and dog food, to spice rubs and packaged desserts from the local restaurants you love on DoorDash. DashMart stores are owned, operated and curated by DoorDash.”
