EPA Approves Emergency Fuel Waivers for Texas
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced late Friday that is has approved emergency fuel waivers to combat fuel shortages from Hurricane Harvey.
The waiver in Texas applies until September 15, 2017 for reformulated gasoline (RFG), Reid vapor pressure (RVP) and Texas Low Emission Diesel (TxLED) in the affected Texas counties covered by Governor Abbot’s Disaster Proclamation. Counties listed in the Disaster Proclamation include:
Aransas / Austin / Bee / Brazoria / Calhoun / Chambers / Colorado / DeWitt / Fayette / Fort Bend / Galveston / Goliad / Gonzales / Harris / Jackson / Jefferson / Jim Wells / Karnes / Kleberg / Lavaca / Liberty / Live Oak / Matagorda / Nueces / Refugio / San Patricio / Victoria / Waller / Wharton / Wilson.
In addition, the EPA extended RVP waivers to the following two counties: Orange and Hardin.
As required by law, EPA and the Department of Energy (DOE) evaluated the situation and determined that granting a short-term waiver was consistent with the public interest. We are continuing to actively monitor the fuel supply situation as a result of Hurricane Harvey, and are ready to act expeditiously if extreme and unusual supply circumstances exist in other areas.
