Governor Abbott Appoints Don Huffines as Texas Comptroller
Governor Greg Abbott announced Thursday, July 2nd, the appointment of former State Senator and Dallas businessman Don Huffines as Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, effective August 1. The appointment follows Acting Comptroller Kelly Hancock's announcement yesterday that he will step down at the end of July.

As Comptroller, Huffines will assume responsibility for the state's tax administration, revenue estimating, and other fiscal oversight functions. He previously served in the Texas Senate from 2015 to 2019 and is the co-founder of Huffines Communities, a Dallas-Fort Worth-based real estate development company.
Huffines is the Republican nominee for Comptroller and will face State Senator Sara Eckhardt, the Democratic nominee, in November.
