Governor Abbott to Halt Unemployment Supplement

For the past week, TFFA has worked with the Texas Association of Business and nearly 40 other organizations to request that Gov. Abbott and Texas Workforce Commissioner Bryan Daniel eliminate the federal UI supplement.

Today, Gov. Abbott announced that Texas will halt the additional $300 per week that unemployed Texans have been able to collect since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, joining 18 other GOP governors who have cut the extra federal aid in the last two weeks.

The payments in Texas will cease June 26, more than two months before they would run out under Congress’ emergency outlay.
