Harvey 2017: Closures Around Texas Coastal Bend

As Tropical Storm Harvey approaches, various closures and postponements have been announced:
  • The Corpus Christi IceRays postponed all events related to training camp, which was set to begin Aug. 25. Players who have reported to Corpus Christi have been evacuated and inbound players have been told not to report to the city until conditions warrant.
  • The United Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce office, 602 N. Staples St., Suite 150; will be closed Friday. The chamber plans to reopen it Monday if it is safe to do so.
  • PlainsCapital Bank branches in Gulf Coast locations, including Corpus Christi and Alice will be closed Friday until further notice.
  • The Texas Department of Public Safety is closing driver's license offices in several counties, including Bee, Brooks, Jim Wells, Karnes, Kleberg, Live Oak, Nueces, and San Patricio for the rest of the day Thursday and all day Friday. 
  • The Education Service Center, Region 2 is closing beginning Thursday afternoon. The Center will monitor the storm to determine when it will resume regular business hours. 
  • First Community Bank is closing all locations Friday and Saturday. It's currently planning to resume normal business hours Monday. 
  • Driscoll Children's Urgent Care, Driscoll Imaging Center and Driscoll After-Hours Clinic- Victoria will close Friday until further notice. 
  • The CHRISTUS Spohn Health System's Emergency Operations Center remained prepared for the storm Thursday. On Twitter the system said hospitals are continuing normal operations, but that there will be some closures and schedule changes Friday. The Robstown, Northside, Westside, Padre Island, Freer, Beeville, Dr. Hector P. Garcia and Memorial Quick Care will close and reopen Monday morning. The CHRISTUS Physician Group physician practices will also close Friday. Promptu Clinics will have a shorted schedule. 
  • Corpus Christi Medical Center on Thursday announced service suspension of Northwest Regional Emergency Department, Northshore Emergency Center, Corpus Christi Medical Center and Corpus Christi Medical Center - Bay View Hospital. Services at Northwest Regional Emergency Department, Northshore Emergency Center, Bay Area Hospital's Emergency Department and Bayview Behaviorial Hospital will reopen as soon as possible after Hurricane Harvey has passed. Those in need of emergency care will be able to visit Doctors Regional Emergency Center at 3315 S. Alameda St.
  • The Navy Region Southeast ordered an evacuation of non-essential personnel at the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi. The base is closed until further notice, but mission-essential personal will remain there. 
  •  ABC Home & Commercial Services is closing their office Thursday and stopping services until after the storm. Phones will be redirected to an Austin offices for calls and rescheduling. 
  • The doubleheader between the Corpus Christi Hooks and Midland RockHounds at Whataburger field has been canceled. It was scheduled for Thursday. An announcement from the Hooks' said unused tickets for tonight and Friday night's game can be redeemed for Labor Day weekend tickets.
  • The Nueces County Courthouse will close at noon Thursday. Employees have been told it will remained closed through Friday. 
  • The Vinson Morris Children's Center at First United Methodist church will close Friday and Monday. The First United Methodist Church has additionally cancelled all events and worship services through Monday. 
  • The Aransas County Commissioner's court cancelled their meeting scheduled for Monday at 9 a.m. Their next meeting is set for Sept. 11. 
  • The USS Lexington Museum On The Bay will close the ship Thursday at 3 p.m. and reopen as soon as possible. 
  • YWCA Corpus Christi is closing at 1:30 p.m. Thursday and will open back up when weather conditions are safe. 
  • The South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center is closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The center is planning to resume normal operation hours Monday. 
  • The one year celebration of the La Mariposa New Life Wellness Center has been postponed. The event was scheduled for Friday morning, and a new date is to be determined.
  • The Buccaneer Commission's Appreciation Party scheduled for Thursday is cancelled.
  • The State Rep. Abel Herrero's 15th Annual Shootout, which was scheduled for Saturday, is postponed until a date to be determined. 
  • The Nueces County Tax Office is closing at noon Thursday. 
  • Signs were posted at the Nueces County Courthouse Thursday that the Nueces County Clerk's Office will be closed Thursday and Friday. The office is expected to reopen Monday. 
  • The Art Museum of South Texas and Hester's Cafe in the museum will be closed Friday through Monday. It's set to reopen to the public Tuesday. 
  • Padre Island National Seashore is closing at noon Thursday. The park could stay closed for several days, depending on the severity of the storm. 
  • The Municipal Court is cancelling all of its Friday dockets, including those for walk-ins. All of the cases are going to be rescheduled and defendants will be notified of their new dates by mail. 
  • The Texas Trophy Hunters Association and American Bank Center have decided to postpone the 2017 Hunters Extravaganza Hunting and Fishing Show, which was scheduled for Friday through Sunday.
  • Flint Hills Resources Corpus Christi initiated its shutdown process Thursday. There is potential for flaring during the process
  • BCFS Health and Human Services-Corpus Christi has postponed its Hunting for Success: A Texas Workforce Commission Youth Conference. It had been scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday at Crystal's Reception Hall, 2033 Airline Road C3. A new date has not been announced.
  • Moody's football scrimmage at H.M. King High School has been moved to Thursday. The varsity squad will face off at 7:30 p.m.
  • Moody's cross-country meet at West Guth Park has been moved to Thursday from Saturday.
  • Carroll's football scrimmages have been moved to Thursday at Sinton High School. The varsity squad will play 9 a.m. and junior varsity will play at 10:30 a.m.
  • Veterans Memorial, Port Lavaca and King high schools will have a three-way scrimmage. Varsity will play at 8:30 a.m. Friday at Buccaneer Stadium and freshman and junior varsity will play at 10 a.m.
  • Kingsville and Moody high schools' scrimmage will be at 10 a.m. Thursday. Only varsity will play. 
  • Calallen and Ray high schools will scrimmage Thursday at Cabaniss Multipurpose Stadium. Varsity will play at 5 p.m. and junior varsity will play at 6 p.m.
  • King and Victoria West high schools will not be playing. 
  • Miller High School still plans to leave at 2 p.m. Friday to play Laredo Nixion in Laredo. Freshman and junior varsity will play at 6:30 p.m. and varsity will play at 7:30 p.m.
  • Odem's football scrimmage at Orange Grove has been rescheduled to Thursday. The varsity squads will face off at 11 a.m.
  • Ben Bolt's football scrimmage at San Diego was  moved to Thursday. The varsity squad will face off at 6 p.m.
  • Veterans Memorial High School's tailgate on Friday has been cancelled. It may be rescheduled.
  • Veterans Memorial High School's Eagle Camp and Meet the Teacher events have been cancelled. 
  • Club Estates Elementary School's Kinder Camp has been moved to 2 p.m. Thursday.  Meet the Teacher has been moved to 2:30 p.m. Thursday. 
  • King High School's Senior Sunrise has been rescheduled for 6:35 a.m. Sunday.
  • Moody High School's freshman orientation has been rescheduled to be during an assembly in the first two weeks of school. 
  • Oak Park Elementary School's Meet the Teacher has been rescheduled for 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
  • Coastal Bend College has rescheduled its Dorm Move-In Day to Sunday.
  • Incarnate Word Academy has cancelled all athletic events scheduled from Thursday to Saturday. The high school's Follow-the-Schedule-Night has been rescheduled for Aug. 31.
  • The Oso Bay and Oso Creek Coordination Committee will not have its Thursday meeting. The next meetings will be at 6 p.m. Sept. 28 and Oct. 26 at South Texas Botanical Gardens and Nature Center, Classroom Building.
  • Nueces Electric Cooperative's Ricardo Service Center at 123 County Road 1026 in Ricardo will be closed Friday. All other offices will remain open during normal business hours. 
  • Saturday's KEDT Kids Festival is being rescheduled. A new date is being coordinated.
  • Thursday's District 2 townhall at the Del Mar Center for Economic Development is being rescheduled for a later date. 
  • The “Backyard Butterfly Habitats,” Saturday’s seminar at the South Texas Botanical Gardens, has been cancelled. The South Botanical Gardens will remain open during normal business hours. 
  • The Bobby Floyd Trio at Texas A&M Kingsville has been rescheduled for 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Bellamah Music Building Recital Hall.
  • Friday's Corpus Christi Songwriters Showcase at The Churchyard at 4425 S. Staples St. has been cancelled. 
  • Andy Purvis' book signing at Barnes & Noble has been rescheduled for 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sep. 9.
  • Whataburger by the Bay and Whataburger on North Beach have closed for the remainder of Thursday. Several other locations also have closed, and could reopen Monday.
