Tesla Wants to Turn Superchargers Into Full-Service Convenience Stores

Tesla is considering a move into the c-store industry.

Tesla told attendees at food-tech conference FSTEC that it’s currently trying to attach convenience stores to its roadside plug-in centers.

Grubstreet.com, siting Restaurant Business, noted Tesla’s chief technology officer J.B. Straubel showed attendees “aerial depiction of a recharge center that included what looked exactly like a c-store.”

“People are coming and spending 20 to 30 minutes at these stops,” Straubel explained. “They want to eat, they want to have a cup of coffee, and they want to use the bathroom.”

The first station is currently under construction in Kettleman City, California (between Los Angeles and San Francisco):
