TFFA Attends Texas Senate Committee on State Affairs Hearing
The Texas Attorney General’s office testified Monday afternoon before the Texas Senate Committee on State Affairs on the topic on price gouging during and after Hurricane Harvey. In their testimony a representative from the Attorney General’s office said, “Both the hotel and gas station industries have active trade associations that communicate with us and with their members about price gouging before and during the Hurricane.”
Later in the hearing the Chairwoman of the Senate State Affairs Committee, Senator Joan Huffman (R-Houston), said, “it sounds to me like these 49 cases were the outliers and that in general Texas businesses were responsible and good neighbors during the Hurricane.”
Senator Judith Zafirini (D-Laredo) put a perfect bow on the topic and the hearing when she said, “usually these topics and committee hearings result in Legislative recommendations to improve how a process works but it sounds to me like no Legislative recommendations are necessary here and the process worked.
